THREE-TIME NEW JERSEY CHAMPION COOPERMAN SELECTED TO THE U.S. DAPPER DAN CLASSIC TEAM |
PITTSBURGH – Cory Cooperman, a three-time New Jersey state champion from Blair Academy, has been selected to the United States team for the 27th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.
Cooperman, a Springfield, N.J., resident, will compete at 125 pounds.
Cooperman, a two-time Beast of the East champion and three-time Ironman champion, went 50-0 in winning his state championship in 2000.
He was 39-1 as a sophomore and 45-12 as a freshman.
Cooperman was second at the Junior Nationals in freestyle in 2000 and third at Cadet Nationals in freestyle in 1999. He is an Asics All-America selection and three-time national prep champion.
He joins his teammate from Blair Academy, Steve Mocco, on the U.S. Dapper Dan Classic team. Mocco is considered the best heavyweight in the nation and one of the greatest of all time.
The Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, partially funded by UPMC Health System, benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.
The Wrestling Classic, dubbed "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," is the premier high school all-star dual meet in the United States.
The preliminary match will feature WPIAL stars going against Minnesota’s best at 5:30 p.m. The main event – Pennsylvania versus the USA will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania leads the all-time series 15-10-1.
